California won two championships at the WNEPHA Equitation Finals in 2010, and was Reserve
Year End champion in 2010 for the Working Hunters.
California is fancy, with a big body to fill up any rider’s leg. He has been shown in every
division, from leadline to the Small Junior Hunters and the Children's Jumpers. He also plays in
the equitation and his rider finished in 3rd place overall in the Year End standings with the
WNEPHA.
He would also make a lovely dressage horse, goes on the bit easily and is familiar with the
lateral work. He has shown training level with scores into the high 60's and Linda Zang 'O'
judge said "don't let the hunters get a hold of him, he's too nice of a dressage horse!"
Cal can be a bit lazy and behind the leg and needs a rider capable of sending him forward and
giving him a confident ride. He can be a little looky at new fences, giving him a lovely jump, but
also requiring an assertive ride.
Cal loves loves loves to hack out and we take him swimming in the local river on a regular
basis. He is becoming a top choice among my junior riders, and you will often hear them
quarlling over who gets to ride him.
Cal would be appropriate for many different level riders, as he can be very steady and quiet,
but he knows when it is time to step up to the plate.
Cal is a mild cribber, which is easily controlled with a collar.
He has no soundness issues, and is easy to handle.
